That’s Sue Desmond-Hellmann. She’s a physician. She was chancellor of the University of California San Francisco. And she’s now the CEO of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Which just published its second annual Goalkeepers Data Report. So what’s that? Well, in 2015, the U.N. set what it calls its Sustainable Development Goals. These are 17 broad goals for the world to try to achieve by 2030, in health, poverty eradication, infrastructure, and more. The Gates Foundation Goalkeepers report looks at ways to achieve the UN goals and tracks the progress in meeting them. I spoke with Desmond-Hellmann by phone.
